Tories show overwhelming support for a united right

( Ottawa )  Progressive Conservatives across Canada voted overwhelmingly to merge with the Canadian Alliance on Saturday, December 6, 2003 .

Inky Mark, Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette was in attendance at the Winnipeg location of the Special Meeting of Members.  Delegates gathered at 26 locations across Canada and were linked by simultaneous teleconferencing.

Said Mark, “I am very pleased with this result.  With this strong showing of support, Progressive Conservatives have made it clear they want one conservative voice in the next election.”

Mark also commented on the transition to the Conservative Party of Canada explaining that riding associations will need to be reconstituted in each electoral district.  Once formed, riding associations will nominate candidates for an expected spring election.  Mark will seek the Conservative nomination in Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette.

“Even with all the excitement and work that will go into forming this new party, for me, it is business as usual.  Nothing in the riding will change.  My work for the constituents continues,” Mark concluded.
