Agriculture Concerns
MP Inky Mark uses a great deal of his allotted time in the House of Commons to raise the farm crisis issue. The Liberal government cannot claim ignorance of the issue, for Inky Mark and his fellow Canadian Alliance Members of Parliament have consistently pushed for the current government to recognize and deal with the crisis. In particular, Inky Mark has pushed for:
- improvements and/or complete overhaul of the AIDA program to ensure that money allocated for farm aid actually gets to the farmers who need it in a timely fashion,
- increased grain shipping through the port of Churchill,
- reduce the government cost burden on farmers, specifically to reduce taxes on fuel and fertilizer, as well as taxes in general,
- encourage value added processing at a local level,
- reform the Canadian Wheat Board, and
- for the government to take a leading role at international trade negotiations to reduce and eventually eliminate foreign subsidies.
Inky Mark was also on hand to greet Nick Parsons after his 3,000 mile trek across Western Canada in his Massey Ferguson combine.
